The Nuplug Story: From the Plug to Purpose-Driven Fashion

How One Man Transformed His Past Into a Movement of Positivity, Accountability, Self-Love, and Growth
Where I'm from, clothes and self-esteem went hand in hand. What you wore dictated how you felt about yourself, how others saw you, and ultimately, how you moved through the world.
This is the story of how Nuplug was born—not just as a clothing brand, but as a complete transformation, a redemption, and a commitment to give back what was once taken.
The Beginning: When Fashion Became Survival
I've always loved fashion. But growing up, I couldn't afford the name brands that seemed to define worth in my community. I wore a lot of hand-me-downs and learned early how to become the class clown—anything to mask the reality of my situation, anything to deflect from what I didn't have.
Around 12 or 13 years old, something shifted. I started hustling. It wasn't supposed to be a long-term thing—just a way to afford better clothes, better shoes, the things that would change how I felt about myself. But before I knew it, hustling became all I knew how to do.
I became the PLUG.
The Trap of Status and Admiration
The clothes we wore gave us status, respect, and admiration. For someone who grew up wearing hand-me-downs and being laughed at, this was intoxicating. Finally, I had what I'd always wanted—to feel valued, to be seen.
But here's the thing about filling voids with external validation: you can never fill enough. Even though the clothes made me feel better about myself on the surface, I discovered something darker underneath. I hated the attention that came with it. I was hustling to fill a void, but another void was developing in its place.
The Strain on My Soul
I've always had a relationship with God that I couldn't fully explain. Even in my darkest moments, there was something there—a pull, a knowing, a connection I couldn't shake. But the lifestyle I adopted was putting a serious strain on that relationship.
I didn't completely cut Him off. I dealt with Him occasionally, the way you might check in with an old friend when guilt weighs too heavy. But I wasn't truly present. I wasn't truly listening.
The Turning Point: When Everything Stopped
Then I caught a charge. I was sentenced to prison.
Suddenly, everything I had put before God—the clothes, the status, the street credibility, the money—couldn't do anything for me. The people I thought would hold me down? They moved on. The lifestyle I thought defined me? It evaporated.
In prison, without distractions, I was forced to face myself. And in that silence, I was able to rekindle my relationship with God. Not the surface-level, occasional check-in relationship, but something real, something transformative.
But that wasn't all.
I got back to doing what I loved best: writing.
The Birth of an Idea (That Took Time to Grow)
In prison, I began writing a book. I also developed my first clothing line concept called "Arrogant." When I was released in 2007, I dabbled with both ideas, but I never finished developing the brand or completing the book. Life got in the way. Doubt crept in. I wasn't ready yet.
But in 2020, something clicked.
I took a leap of faith and created Nuplug.
What Nuplug Really Means
Nuplug wasn't just another clothing brand. It was my way of correcting what I did to my community as the old Plug. It was a play on words—a deliberate, intentional transformation.
As the old Plug, I contributed to cycles of destruction, quick money, and short-term thinking. As Nuplug, I wanted to inspire people to unplug from negativity and plug into something greater: their potential, their purpose, their growth.
The quotes I put on my clothes? They're me completing the book I never finished—motivating others the way the Bible motivated me during my darkest days.
What Nuplug Stands For
Nuplug is the renewing of the mind. It's the death of old habits and the birth of a Nu You.
It's where fashion intertwines with:
- Positivity – Choosing to see the good, spread the good, be the good
- Accountability – Taking ownership of your actions and your growth
- Self-Love – Recognizing your worth isn't tied to what you wear, but enhanced by how you carry yourself
- Growth – Constantly evolving, learning, becoming better than yesterday
In order to become a Nuplug, you must first unplug from anything and everything negative that hinders your growth. You have to make the conscious choice to cut ties with destructive patterns, toxic environments, and limiting beliefs.
Fashion with a Purpose
Fashion is good. But fashion with a purpose is even better.
When you wear Nuplug, you're not just wearing clothes. You're wearing a message. You're dressing with the intent to inspire, motivate, and help others develop into the best version of themselves.
You're making a statement that you refuse to let your past define your future. That you're committed to growth. That you believe in something bigger than trends and status symbols.
Join the Nuplug Family
You can join the Nuplug family by simply being a positive outlet in a negative world.
That's it. That's the requirement.
You don't need a perfect past. You don't need to have it all figured out. You just need to be committed to unplugging from negativity and plugging into your purpose.
Every piece of Nuplug apparel is designed to remind you—and everyone who sees you—that growth is possible, change is real, and your story isn't over.
From the Streets to Your Closet: The Mission Continues
I started as someone who hustled to feel worthy. I became the Plug—a role that gave me temporary satisfaction but long-term emptiness. I went to prison and found clarity. I came out and eventually built Nuplug.
Now, every t-shirt, every hat, every jacket we create carries a piece of that transformation. It's a reminder that:
- Your past doesn't define your future
- What you wear can reflect who you're becoming
- Fashion can be a tool for inspiration, not just admiration
- You have the power to unplug from what holds you back
